Weathering, Erosion and Deposition

Weathering, erosion and deposition are three natural processes that change the surface of the Earth.

1.- Investigate the definition of each process and post it on the blog.

2.- Make a model using a box of milk:

Cut one of the bigger sides of the box.
Cut a little pice from one of the smaller sides of the box.
Fill the box with soil.
Use a plastic glass and a straw to simulate a river.

3.- Explain what happened. When did the weathering, erosion and deposition processes took place?

4.-Write your comments on the blog using the structure: Making the model I observed that...

  1. Weathering is the breaking down of rocks, soils and minerals as well as artificial materials through contact with the Earth's atmosphere, biota and waters. Weathering occurs in situ, or "with no movement", and thus should not be confused with erosion, which involves the movement of rocks and minerals by agents such as water, ice, wind, and gravity.
